FFWD Week 6: Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flans
Well, I jumped off the deep end this week and made the Pumpkin-Gorgonzola Flans from Around My French Table. At the grocery store I was warned against Gorgonzola and told that it was like eating "a stinky gym sock". Naturally this worried me some, but I decided that I would never know for myself if I didn't try it.
And I gotta say, this recipe did absolutely nothing for me. The best part was the walnuts. Now, I'm sure that this is for other people, but it's not for me. I like my pumpkin with plenty of sugar and spices!
And now I know:
gorgonzola = not my thing

Sorry you didn't enjoy this one! I wasn't overly impressed either and I even substituted a cheese I liked. It was good, but nothing that I would probably make again. Your flan is beautiful however!

ReplyDeleteIt looks delicious to me, but I love savory pumpkin dishes and the delicious "stinky gym sock" flavor of gorgonzola, haha.
Im wondering about this one too! Im going to try it out in a few weeks. It sure looks good!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't care for this one. I have to say your gorgonzola looks very blue! I personally love all kinds of stinky cheese, but can understand how this wouldn't be a hit if you don't like "stinky gym sock" cheese.
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes, it did turn out very pretty! I can definitely see how the combination of mellow pumpkin, strong cheese and crunchy walnuts could be excellent, but it is just not the right flavours for me! I am glad I tried it though =)

ReplyDeleteEven though I knew it had gorgonzola cheese on the top - I just have had a hard time believing that it is a savory dessert because I have only had sweet flan. I am nervous about trying this one - it should be interesting. You may not have liked the flavor, but it turned out so pretty.
ReplyDeletedon't feel bad. i didn't like it either! i think i will experiment and try different toppings. it was like pumpkin pie without the sugar.
ReplyDeleteI was worried I wouldn't like this but I did. I drizzled honey over it though- that made it just sweet enough for me. (But then, I love stinky cheese.) :)
